Retirement isn’t about doing less: It’s about doing what you love. At The Glenridge, our members are leaders, board members and philanthropists. They’re volunteering for good causes. They’re still working for fun. And above all, they’re living with purpose – in our community and beyond.
As we see what 2026 has in store, we’re highlighting all the ways our members flourish in our new blog series: In Pursuit of Purpose! If you haven’t yet, you can read the first entry in the series here.
It’s said that “home is where the heart is” … and for Leon and Marge Ellin, it’s also where the art is! Lifelong aficionados of fine art, the pair have curated an extensive collection of paintings and glass art over the years – and when they moved to The Glenridge, all of it moved in right along with them.
“Our artwork is very eclectic,” says Marge. “We didn’t set out to collect one particular form of art or one artist – but we always bought things that we both loved.”
The Ellins have also donated dozens of pieces to the Ringling Museum of Art, which they’ve been closely associated with over the years. After serving six years on the Ringling’s board, Leon still serves as a committee member, and he and Marge have both been longtime supporters of the Sarasota Art Museum.
When they’re not volunteering behind the scenes, the Ellins can also be found in the audience, enjoying live theatre and performing arts. “There’s just a wealth of cultural offerings in Sarasota – and we’ve been involved to some degree with almost all of them,” says Leon. “For a town this size to have two art museums, a ballet company, an opera company, and seven or eight theatres is pretty amazing.”
The Ellins are in good company at The Glenridge, which is home to a passionate community of art-lovers. From nonprofit leaders like Joan Sussman, executive director of chamber music group La Musica … to multimedia artists like Elisabeth Root … to musicians and board members like Bob and Laurel Dove, our members are proud patrons of Sarasota’s creative scene – and more important, they’re shaping its future.
When it comes to aging, those who thrive are those who swim against the current – staying active, connected, engaged and informed throughout life. That’s been part of The Glenridge’s vision from the very beginning. We live up to our reputation as a Life Fulfilling Community® – and so do the trailblazers, industry leaders, lifelong learners and philanthropists who call our campus home.
