If there’s one common chord in Bob and Laurel Dove’s life, it’s music. Between his career working with instrument manufacturers like Steinway and Yamaha, and her lifelong commitment to music education, they’ve found plenty of opportunities to combine creativity with purpose throughout life.
That shared love of music brought them together – and more recently, it brought them to Sarasota. “Concerts, theatre, opera – Sarasota is rich in all those things, and that’s why we moved here,” says Laurel. “And especially at The Glenridge on Palmer Ranch, we’re in a community of people who are passionate about culture.”
The Doves are active volunteers in the local arts scene. Bob recently retired as treasurer of the Sarasota Concert Association, while Laurel is a board member of the Choral Artists of Sarasota. And now that they’re living just minutes from all the programming the Glenridge Performing Arts Center (GPAC) has to offer, they can enjoy fine music even closer to home.
Elegant and intimate, the 260-seat GPAC is a jewel of a theatre that gets rave reviews in a city that knows and appreciates culture. Featuring a fully professional stage with top-quality sound and lighting systems, it’s perfect for performances from acclaimed artists and top performing arts groups like the Sarasota Opera and Sarasota Orchestra.
More recently, members can also explore the expanded Theatre District, an all-in-one cultural destination right on campus. With the GPAC at its center, the area includes an elegant Art Gallery showcasing the works of both Glenridge members and visiting artists, as well as the Kiltie Grille serving made-to-order cuisine, internationally inspired dishes, and a selection of cocktails.
Whether the Doves are catching a GPAC show with friends, heading out for an evening downtown, or relaxing at home in their Glenridge residence – where their own piano and organ take center stage – music is more a part of life than ever. And they’re living better than ever, too … in a community designed to help members flourish.
“When you get here, you realize that this is a place full of possibilities,” says Laurel. “You meet people from all over the world who have lived exciting and fascinating lives – and there’s a lot more living to be done. It’s vibrant.”
But the best way to experience what makes The Glenridge truly one of a kind is to come and see it for yourself. So why wait? Browse upcoming events at GPAC and buy tickets online at www.gpactix.com.
