At The Glenridge, we’re deeply proud of the many veterans who call our community home. Since opening in 2003, our membership has included more than 350 veterans representing all branches of the military – including 173 who served during World War II.
Every one of their lives and legacies has shaped the nation we live in today – and so, it’s only fitting that their service has also left a mark on The Glenridge’s campus in the form of the soaring Veterans & Visionaries Memorial Eagle, which marks its first anniversary this year.
Standing nearly 12 feet high from base to wingtip, the bronze statue is an unmistakable landmark on the north side of the lake adjacent to The Glenridge’s main building. Atop a black granite base, the eagle spreads its wings to take flight – expressing the unyielding fortitude of the American spirit.
At the base of the monument, the names of all Glenridge veterans are engraved on bronze plaques, including one medallion for each branch of the military. A perpetual waterfall and reflecting pool symbolize the flow of time connecting past and present, while the stars and stripes flying overhead remind us how much we owe to those who have served.
“The monument represents not only the visionaries of the past, but also today’s visionaries who will take The Glenridge into the future,” said Jim Agnew, our community’s chaplain, who is a veteran himself. “As we carry the torch in the days ahead, it will inspire us to uphold the values of support and service.”
