America 250 at The Glenridge: Heritage, History, and Summer Fun

What’s red, white and blue all over? This summer, it’s The Glenridge – because with our nation’s 250th anniversary on the horizon, we’ve been ramping up the patriotic spirit with a full month of summer festivities.

Our community is known for going all-out to celebrate the holidays, from Veterans Day observances in the fall to April Fools mischief in the spring. And in December, our campus transforms into a dazzling winter wonderland, complete with garlands, lights, and a miniature “Christmas village” display.

But a landmark event like America 250 doesn’t come around every year – and at The Glenridge, we pulled out all the stops to make the “semiquincentennial” celebrations truly special:

  • A star-spangled campus. American flags began appearing around campus in the middle of June, signaling the start of “Glenridge 250”. Over the next few weeks, members enjoyed classic film screenings – including Independence Day, 1776, and Hacksaw Ridge, and The Right Stuff – as well as Fourth of July trivia, holiday desserts, and more.
  • Presidential history brought to life. “President Thomas Jefferson” himself took the stage at the Glenridge Performing Arts Center, courtesy of character actor J.D. Sutton. The interactive show captured highlights of Jefferson’s life, personality and administration – as well as his lasting impact on American history.
  • Fun in the sun (and in the shade). The Glenridge Yacht Club put their best boats forward at miniature regatta with remote-controlled sailboats, while bocce players enjoyed a spirited competition on the courts. As a retreat from the summer heat, GPAC also hosted a live concert band to perform patriotic tunes.
  • Yes, even a parade. Classic cars, floats for staff and member veterans, and decorated golf carts were all rolling in style at the Glenridge 250 Parade on July 2. Afterward, our DJ’d Car Show drew a crowd, with hot dogs and hamburgers served to attendees.
  • A fantastic Fourth – Members will celebrate the holiday with a barbecue luncheon, complete with camaraderie, music and fun.

Our history is part of our heritage, and marking this milestone in our nation’s journey is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. So, however you celebrate “America 250” – we wish you a spectacular Fourth of July.

At The Glenridge, we always go the extra mile – growing, innovating, and continually striving to do more for our members. Find out what our Life Fulfilling Community® can do for you: Send us a message or give our Life Planning Team a call at 941-552-5369 to schedule your personal tour.
